Senior Trader - Cargill - Wayzata, MN
Duties: Manage a critical portfolio of Cargill’s Agricultural Supply Chain platform – the soybean and soybean meal trade flow out of the South Cone of South America (Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Uruguay). Work involves overseeing trading of the South American basis and provide leadership to the regional merchants regarding quotes and recommendations, market information, logistic status and political and economic country situations. This position is a key part of the Cargill worldwide protein trading team (South American, North American, European, Asian and our World Trading Office in Geneva, Switzerland). Provide strategic direction for gathering information from the other worldwide team members and provide trading inputs necessary for the price discovery and better positioning/risk management of the rest of the Business Units who trade soybeans and proteins for Cargill. Work involves high volume, high value, and highly complex trading of soybeans and protein products throughout South America, including in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia. Manage the origination of 5 million metric tons of soybean meal, 2.4 million metric tons of soybeans, 100,000 metric tons of sunflower meal, 350,000 metric tons of soybean hulls, products which are worth approximately 2.5$ billion USD. Responsibilities include overseeing trading and advising on 3 different Soybeans Origins, 5 different types of soybean meal qualities and 2 different types of sunflower meal and soybean hulls from 3 origins. Responsible for directing logistics at the Argentinean ports in the Parana River (San Martin, San Lorenzo, Rosario) as well Atlantic Ocean ports, including Bahia Blanca and Necochea, and also Pacific Ocean ports (Matarani in Peru and Arica in Chile). Lead direct communication with Cargill Sr. Traders located in Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia and Uruguay, as well as brokers, customers, and other market sources. Provide Cargill Trading offices and destination offices around the world with quotes, firm offers, market information, recommendations, and logistics status of the pipeline under his management. Lead and execute synergies with other Business Units within Cargill, sharing information and insights with our World Trading Office in Geneva, Switzerland. Oversee analysis for the vegetable proteins Supply and Demand for Argentina, Paraguay and Bolivia. Direct cash pipeline Argentina, Paraguay and Bolivia origins, together with different Cargill officers of the world, including North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia. Manage counterparty Credit Risk. Supervise two subordinates, both Soybeans Semi Senior Traders. Qualifications Required Qualifications 1. Bachelor’s degree or higher or foreign equivalent, in Business Administration, Agribusiness, or Agriculture with a Business Concentration. 2. At least 7 years of experience developing price risk strategies for buying and/or selling agricultural/farm products (like soybeans); coordinating supply chain logistics of agricultural commodities; and researching and advising on buy/sell strategies for agricultural commodities in Latin America. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree + 7 years of experience, the employer will accept 9 years (108 months) of experience developing price risk strategies for buying and/or selling agricultural/farm products (like soybeans); coordinating supply chain logistics of agricultural commodities; and researching and advising on buy/sell strategies for agricultural commodities in Latin America. 3.
