United States
Established in 1868, MetLife is the largest life insurer in the United States based on life insurance in force. Latin America
MetLife began its presence in Latin America in the early 1990s and has continually expanded its business through both organic and inorganic growth. In 2002, MetLife acquired Aseguradora Hidalgo in Mexico. Then, in 2005, MetLife acquired Travelers Life & Annuity business from Citigroup, growing its position in the region. Most recently in 2010, MetLife acquired Alico from AIG, a transformational deal through which MetLife became the world’s leading life insurer and the largest U.S. life insurer in Latin America. THE ROLE: The AVP, Software Engineering for Group Annuity leads the organization responsible for the technical development, delivery and management of all applications that support the CBF (Corporate Benefits Funding) business. CBF is the second largest MetLife business by earnings. The application portfolio consists of mainframe and distributed legacy applications.
This role is also responsible for the technical management of the ACE initiative. ACE is a multi-year, strategic initiative to implement a new platform for the CBF business. ACE is based on a vendor product; the vendor and MetLife do joint development to extend the functionality to meet MetLife specific business requirements. Also in scope is the conversion of legacy business to the ACE platform. Key technologies for ACE are Java/J2EE, Oracle, WebSphere, Informatica.
The role encompasses financial and operational metrics and reporting, Vendor management, assessment and execution of currency opportunities and participation in driving implementation and use of world-class development tools and processes.
Responsibilities:
Provides leadership for effectiveness and organizational management of 26 employees and 82 vendor resources with IT budge and oversight of $13M.
Partners with Solutions Delivery, and Production Management to manage the technical stability and maintainability of the application portfolio
Partners with Solutions Delivery and Architecture to assess and maintain and future state architecture roadmap
Responsible for talent management and development of Group Annuity organization.
Drive success and change that adheres to the organizations goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Advanced degree preferred.
10-15 years of experience in software application/product development roles
Five years of applicable experience in managing software development teams including experience managing large, complex initiatives andor conversions.
Five years of applicable experience in managing vendor relationships.
Five years of applicable experience in the Insurance or Financial Services industry.
Expert understanding of the SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) process.
Experience driving large programs with multiple stakeholders and divergent agendas.
Experience co- developing software with third party vendors.
Experience building new technology for multi-year programs and doing conversion planning.
Must be able to sphere new projects, have strong discipline, organizational skills and time management.
Proven project management experience in the implementation of complex business applications
Excellent communication, collaboration, and teaming skills; skills and experience in executive level communication and presentations.
