Global Mobility and Outplacement Manager - American Express - New York, NY
Global Mobility and Outplacement sits under the Global Total Rewards and Learning (GTRL) within Global Benefits. This is a Center of Excellence department for strategy related to mobility and outplacement globally. Mobility includes immigration, tax, intra-country and cross country relocation and assignments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, strategic direction and implementation of mobility (immigration, tax, intra-country, and cross country relocation and assignments) and outplacement programs globally. They will also be the resident “expert” on mobility and outplacement matters to include ensuring that the company’s policies and practices are “state of the art” and maintain the company’s position as employer of choice.
The following three items are critical to the success of Global Mobility Services:
- Thought leadership and innovation to maintain and address barriers to ensuring a cutting-edge program design and delivery that acts as a talent enabler and/or management of the brand after employment.
- Expert strategic analysis including meaningful analytics and recommendations around: business unit strategy, merger and acquisitions, restructuring, country expansion or shrinkage, and group initiatives.
- Joint ownership of vendor selection to determine the best partners to exceed customer and stakeholder requirements. Employee delivery is a fully outsourced model in partnership with a shared services Operations function to manage the daily activities.
As a manager, the day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Strategic support, which may include presentations, recommendations, and/or action plans.
- Sharing creative innovative solutions to barriers based on industry and country subject matter expertise considering risk, compliance, tax, and immigration tolerance
- Offer recommendations that provide creative solutions to potential barriers which are cost effective
- Provide ongoing support to leadership
- Continually educate stakeholders
- Develop partnerships with Operations, peers, stakeholders, and business lines
- Reduce and mitigate compliance and regulatory risks
- Participate in the development and updating of mobility and outplacement programs
- Lead the strategy aspects of various projects related to outplacement or mobility
- Accountable for group (10+ employees) strategy, design, timing, and costs in with Operations and suppliers managing the execution and on-going aspects of the project
- Management to Return on Investment (ROI) analytics

- Excellent communication and presentation skills including technology tools such as Excel and PowerPoint; at ease with multiple system self-service information gathering
- Ability to analyze and determine trends and patterns in data to provide recommendations to stakeholders at various levels, including significantly higher than yourself in the organization
- Independent worker with minimum oversight; project management skills including ability to use Microsoft Project
- Ability to multi-task and determine priorities in a high stress environment
- Minimum of two year HR generalist, employee labor relations, and/or outplacement experience
- Minimum of ten years in the mobility industry; preferred experience with the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, India, Italy, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, United Kingdom, and United States
- Minimum of five years with tax and immigration related experience in mobility
- Preferred participation in a new country start-up for a company entity
- Preferred experience with outplacement and services offered
- Understanding of tax and immigration compliance requirements and positions related to mobility with preferred direct experience in countries noted above
- Management and/or working with global teams not directly sitting in the same office; ability to influence and work with multiple cultures
- Ability to work flexible hours including early mornings, nights, and weekends
Educational requirement : Master’s degree is preferred, bachelor’s degree is required
Preferred Additional :
- Mobility, Tax, Human Resources, or Project Management related certificates such as: Certified Relocation Professional, Global Mobility Specialist – Talent, Certified Professional Accountant, Global Tax Certifications, Global HR Professional
- Experience with a publically traded organization
- International travel and/or living aboard experience
- Fluent in multiple languages a plus
