Your Function:
L/C Technician is responsible for issuing and amending Letters of Credit, process drawings and payments in accordance with UCP 600 and Bank’s policies and procedures and government regulations on Anti-Boycott, OFAC and Anti-Money Laundering. Process documentary collections.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:


  • Letters of Credit documents will be examined and beneficiaries/correspondent banks will be contacted within 3 days of receipt to ensure that Discrepancy Cable or MT 734 are sent (when necessary) to the Negotiating Banks within 5 days of receipt to avoid interest claims, etc.

  • Letters of Credit are advised and amended on same day or next day based on arrangements with customers. Ensures that government regulations e.g. CCC, Eximbank, EDC, Boycott and OFAC regulations are followed. Also ensures that UCP provisions are adhered to.

  • Handling incoming and outgoing Documentary Collections governed by the ICC URC522.

  • Issues/problems should be anticipated and resolved in a timely manner.

  • Maintains excellent relations with customers, inter-departments, correspondent banks and government agencies. Actively participates and proactively supports customers’ needs. Customers/correspondent banks will receive assistance at all times in structuring LC transactions.

  • Contributes consistently for over-all efficiency and team-work. Demonstrates a willingness to take on responsibility and to assist others/colleagues to achieve the department’s goals and upholds the bank’s name.

  • Analyzes terms and conditions of letters of credit and documents to ensure that they are processed in compliance with UCP and bank’s policies and they do not have any provision contrary to Anti-Boycott and OFAC regulations.

  • Cover back up desk when on vacation.

  • Assist co-workers when needs arise.

  • Participate in User Acceptance Testing for new systems and enhancements.

Your Profile:
Job Skills and Knowledge:
Essential:
Provide excellent customer service to all clients, both internal and external ensuring that transactions are processed accurately in accordance with established credit guidelines and Bank’s policies and procedures.


Process L/Cs accurately and on a timely basis and work independently with minimum supervision.


Ensure that L/Cs are processed in accordance with Bank’s policies and procedures, UCP 600 and government rules and regulations. Demonstrates technical expertise and skills required to manage the assigned accounts.


Be ready, willing and able to assist and support other staff should the need arise. Show high level of cooperation with team members and work closely to assist in times of unusually high volume.


Be able to analyze and interpret terms and conditions of L/C to ensure compliance with UCP and government regulations. Also be able to interpret and assess accurately the information received from agent banks.


Desirable:
CDCS


Qualifications:
At least 8 years experience in all facets of Commercial L/C.


College degree or equivalent experience/outside education and training.


Knowledge of PC based technology.


Hands-on experience with LC systems, a definite plus.


Proven ability to work under pressure.


Proven communication skills.
