Site Supervisor, Cargill Malt (Sheboygan) - Cargill - Sheboygan, WI





Cargill Malt originates and transforms malting barley and wheat into high quality malt that is supplied to the brewing, distilling, and food industries worldwide. Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Cargill Malt operates eighteen malting plants across ten countries: Belgium, France, Spain, Holland, Germany, United States, Canada, Russia, Australia, and Argentina.

We run two technical centers, one in Belgium and one in the United States. These facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art micro- and mini-malting facilities, as well as pilot breweries. We also have access to two beverage application centers and two food innovation centers, giving customers superior R&D and innovation capabilities.


Reporting to the Operations Manager Americas, the Site Supervisor is responsible for providing operational leadership for the operational site including health and safety regulations, environment compliance, food safety, customer requirements, employee engagement and production of malt while managing costs and operating efficiencies


Principal Accountabilities:
30% Operational/Reliability Excellence/Continuous Improvement


  • Directly responsible for managing the facility within the operational budget while delivering targeted revenue to the business.

  • Manages a team direct and indirect reports. Oversees operations of the Elevator, Warehouse, Packaging, and Shipping/Recieving to achieve customer requirements.

  • Identifies, aligns, and provides input to best in class operational practices. Utilizes technical skills and relevant experience to identify and solve problems and recommend/implement operating efficiencies.

  • Reviews performance measurements and deploys practices to promote operational efficiencies (operational rates and energy efficiencies).

  • Directly responsible for the asset health, maintenance and operability of the facility.

  • Champions a culture that promotes operational excellence. Seeks process improvements and champions business case for new investments/innovations.

  • Identifies opportunities for continuous improvements applicable to the entire business.

25% Safety/Risk Management


  • Oversees day-to-day operations for the Sheboygan site, ensuring direct/indirect reports are following and enforcing policies and procedures related to employee safety and food/feed safety.

  • Partners with Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) and Food Safety Quality and Regulatory (FSQR) experts to implement the most effective approach for complying with corporate policies and procedures.

o Health and Safety: Enforces a culture of zero injury and illness.


o Environmental: Understands and proactively avoids environmental impact and potential risks to the business.


o Food Safety: Directly monitors risks associated with products. Ensures FSSC/ISO/HACCP/FDA standards and requirements are met in all food and feed processes.


o Educates and trains workforce in food safety fundamentals and completes safety and good manufacturing practices (GMP) audits.


  • Documents and investigates EHS/Food Safety incidents to identify risks, root causes, recommends and implements corrective actions. Responsible for all incidents to be logged, and completed in SalesForce.

  • Promotes and enables an active Safety and Food Safety committee.

  • Participates in customer, third party, and regulatory audits as site supervisor as needed.

  • Maintains thorough understanding of site emergency action plan and prepare responsible individuals to execute the plan. Tests the plan periodically to ensure feasibility and that all personnel can perform functions.

20% People Management


  • Develops/supervises and provides coaching to direct and indirect reports including coaching Cargill’s core values and guiding principles.

  • Develops planning for future production workforce needs and participates in selection of employees.

  • Implements department operational, reliability, safety, FSQR training programs and controls/monitors employee performance.

  • Accountable for production talent development and for overall training and on boarding new employees.

  • Focuses on engagement, recognition, development and coaching.

  • Implements systems and process to maintain a highly engaged workforce. Holds direct reports accountable for actively addressing engagement issues and for identifying best practices in engagement.

  • Applies disciplinary actions as needed.

15% Customer Focus/Product Innovation/Quality Management


  • Directly oversees and monitors supply chain, for quantity and quality to ensure customer and food safety requirements are within specification. Works with commercial, supply chain, logistics & production site staff to meet customer specifications and timeline.

  • Oversees, documents and investigates quality issues as they occur. Compiles related information and provides recommendations for improvements for review by regional operations, QA, Process Technology.

  • Measures quality performance in areas that impact the customer by logging the findings and corrective actions into SalesForce

  • Supports customer relationships by meeting business objectives and by understanding how operational performance impacts internal and external customers.

10% Production Financial Performance/Capital Planning Effectiveness


  • Reviews expenses and monitors spending in the Sheboygan site. Finds and implements controls to ensure budget compliance.

  • Works with site and regional team to develop a budget and implements controls to ensure budget compliance.

  • Accountable for implementation of base capital investments for the site.

  • Works with engineering, FSQR, EHS, and facility management to provide input in the development of plant capital investment strategies.

Qualifications


Required:


  • Engineering or applied science degree.

  • At least 5 years of combined experience in production management, maintenance supervision or project management

  • Routine activity to include sitting, walking, climbing, bending, crouching and occasionally lifting 55lbs

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with systems and databases

  • Strong organizational, leadership and planning skills

  • Strong team player cross functionally

  • Demonstrated team building, leadership and conflict resolution skills

  • Demonstrated self-starter

  • Working knowledge of Food Safety, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA and Environmental regulations

  • Ability to communicated effectively both verbal and written within multiple levels of the organization

  • Demonstrated effective systematic approach to problem solving

  • Ability to organize, coordinate and accomplish multiple tasks

  • Ability to adapt and learn in a changing work environment

  • Ability to travel as needed (less than 10%)

Preferred:

  • Chemical or BioChemical Engineering

  • Masters of Business Administration…

  • Demonstrated 10 yrs experience of 1) managing a operational site, 2)project execution, 3) supply chain and logistics

  • Experience deploying and/or using SAP

  • Grain elevator or packaging experience
