Project Geologist (Fernley, nv)

We are currently seeking a Project Geologist in our Fernley, NV location. The Project Geologist will develop and oversee mineral exploration, reserve development projects, deposit modelling, reserve estimation, ore quality, and develop both Life of Mine (LOM) and 5 year plans at various sites/projects held by Company. This position holds no direct reports.
Data from analysis is foundation of all reserve estimation and modelling for all diatomite and perlite world-wide. Life of mine estimations are based on the results generated from analysis and modelling. Applications of mined and target minerals are generated from analysis of tests. Geological work including drilling, sampling, and geo-modelling is required for reserve calculation and mine feasibility reporting.
Domestic travel required is 50%.
International travel required is 20%.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carry out and be fully responsible for all designated geological work including detailed interpretation of such work, with view to economic feasibility of deposit being assessed. This will include, but not limited to: field mapping, drilling, pit surveying, core logging, data entry, geo-modeling, and reserve estimation. This will require extensive field work in challenging environments including countries outside the United States, such as Turkey, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Argentina, China, and various European Countries. (60%)
Develops short (5 year plans) and long term mine plans (Life of Mine). (25%)
Monitor crude quality as delivered to mineral processing facilities and its relation to the geology and mineralogy of deposit. This will require working in production and unionized environments. Will also require interaction with senior plant superintendents and forming an understanding of the complex mineralogical processing facilities and the inherent effects of crude quality. (10%)
Conducts exploration/development drilling at various sites assigned by Mine Planning Manager. (5%)
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum acceptable degree is Masters (6 years at accredited institution of higher education) and 5 years work experience in exploration geology.
- Previous experience performing exploration, pit, and trench mapping
- Direct experience with drill management, including drill hole planning, drill, budgeting, RQD, and drill core logging and sampling.
- Previous experience developing geologic models, including lithologic and grade models
- Experience working in western North American Cordillera.
- Completion of 5-6 week capstone field course
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working in perlite and diatomite considered highly desirable.
- Familiarity with GEOVIA software, such as GEMS, Surpac, and Minex (Minex is a Plus), AutoCAD, and GIS (preferably MapInfo or ArcGIS).
- Experience generating reserve and resource estimates using PERC, JORC, and/or NI 43-101 reserve reporting codes.
- Previous surveying experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with Leica GPS and Total Station operation
- Previous experience working in production setting considered a plus.
- Ideal candidate would have performed all necessary geological work for operation quarry including drilling, logging core, geo-modeling, mineral analysis, and crude quality control.
