Boundless is seeking a skilled technical writer interested in helping us bring open source geospatial software to organizations around the world. Use your strong writing skills and knowledge of the software industry to help our user community stay informed about our innovative technology. Work collaboratively with developers, release managers, product managers, and subject matter experts to improve our users’ experience with open source geospatial software.

Responsibilities:
Writing and maintaining user manuals: document planning, gaining product knowledge, writing, editing, indexing, and formatting

Writing and maintaining system administrator and quick reference guides

Continuously improving the quality of existing documentation by making architectural and content changes

Editing the work of developers, writers, and subject matter expertsFulfilling documentation requests from clients and colleagues

Assist the product manager with estimating documentation hours based on software release cycles

Compiling release notes: gathering information from subject matter experts, testing/confirming fixes, writing, editing, and keeping up-to-date with the latest state of items

Qualifications :
We’re looking for a gifted technical writer who has:
Two or more years of professional technical writing experience focused on developing software documentation for online help, tutorials, and user guides

Bachelor’s (or experience equivalent) in technical writing, English, journalism, computer science, or related field

Solid understanding of the documentation process and development cycle

Curiosity about new technology and experience with teaching and training others on technical topics

Ability to prioritize tasks and multi-task with strong attention to detail

Bonus Points for:
Knowledge of the geospatial software industry

Knowledge of open source best practices

Experience working with XML, restructured text, or other markup languages

Demonstrated knowledge of effective multimedia instructional design

Ability to identify multimedia design needs and to develop design concepts for screencasts, webinars, training courses, etc.

Knowing more than one language
